If you’ve ever dreamed of controlling an army of digital monsters, Digimon Story: Time Stranger turns that childhood dream into an endless mission. With over 450 Digimon across every evolutionary stage, this new RPG blends the strategy of traditional monster raising with modern depth, letting you craft a squad that’s equal parts nostalgic and terrifying.

This isn’t just a list of cute creatures—it’s a complete system of power, personality, and potential, whether you’re chasing WarGreymon’s glory or experimenting with a weird Betamon evolution chain. Time Stranger rewards obsessive planning and smart battles.

All Digimon Stages Explained

Evolution, or Digivolution, is the soul of Digimon Story: Time Stranger. Each Digimon evolves through five main stages—each representing a massive leap in power and design.

In-Training I and II

These are the smallest lifeforms in the Digital World—your humble beginnings.

  • Examples: Botamon, Poyomon, Kuramon, and Bukamon.
They learn basic attacks and are mainly stepping stones toward the rookie level. You’ll outgrow them fast, but their personalities stick around through every evolution.

Rookie

This is where real combat begins.

  • Important Digimon: Agumon, Armadillomon, Betamon, Coronamon, and Chuumon. Rookies have enough sources of energy to stay in the fight and enough personality to notice them when they faint. They’re also where stat specialization begins—some hit hard, others defend or support.

Champion

Champions are the backbone of any serious team.

  • Examples: Greymon, Garurumon, Birdramon, Kabuterimon, Togemon, and Angemon. They gain new abilities, stronger skills, and access to the game’s first serious strategy layer. Champions also define your combat style—aggressive, tactical, or defensive.

Ultimate

The power curve spikes sharply here.

  • Examples: MetalGreymon, MagnaAngemon, Zudomon, and Lillymon. Each Ultimate Digimon requires specific Agent Ranks, items, or conditions to evolve. They also begin unlocking their Signature Skills, massive SP-consuming moves that can flip the entire tide of battle.

Mega

This is the apex—the digital gods of Time Stranger.

  • Examples: WarGreymon, MetalGarurumon, Seraphimon, Rosemon, Hercules Kabuterimon, Phoenixmon, and Vikemon. The excitement vibes of getting a reward after grinding come with every Mega Digimon you get. Their base stats at level 99 are crazy, and their ultimate moves are so good that they can end a battle instantly.

Stats That Matter

At level 99, every Digimon shines differently. The stat categories—HP, Attack, Defense, Intelligence, and Speed—determine how your Digimon behaves on the battlefield.

According to data compiled from Game8 and Fandom, these stats can vary wildly even within the same evolution stage.

  • Agumon offers balance and reliability.
  • MetalGarurumon excels in speed and intelligence, favoring quick, high-damage magic attacks.
  • Rosemon leans into endurance and control, mastering debuffs and regeneration.

It’s not just about who hits harder—Time Stranger demands synergy. Each Digimon’s element (Fire, Water, Earth, Light, etc.) and type (Vaccine, Virus, Data, or Free) influences your matchups.

Battle Tip

  • Vaccine-type Digimon dominate Virus types.
  • Virus-type Digimon crush data types.
  • Data-type Digimon counter Vaccine-types.
  • Free types adapt to any strategy, making them wildcard assets.

Mastering these relationships turns a good team into an unstoppable force.

Special and Attachment Skills

Every Digimon comes with Special Skills—their ultimate moves—and Attachment Skills, which you can edit based on how you play.

For example, MetalGreymon might use Giga Destroyer, an explosive SP attack with fire-based damage, while MagnaAngemon’s Heaven’s Gate is used as both offense and defense. On the other hand, attachment skills allow combo setups—mashing buffs, heals, or debuffs around your team.

Pricey skills require SP management, but casting them at the right time often wins you the battle. Time Stranger gives risk-takers who learn when to unleash full power.

Evolution Requirements

Evolving your Digimon isn’t just about leveling them up. You’ll need to watch for multiple conditions:

  • Agent Rank: Higher ranks unlock harder evolutions.
  • Items: Digi-Eggs and data chips are very important for Mega evolutions.
  • Bond Level: Some evolutions require a strong relationship between you and the Digimon.
  • Stats: Some evolutions require a specific minimum point in Attack or Intelligence.

The game makes you work for it—but seeing your humble Agumon become WarGreymon feels like winning a personal championship.

Why Time Stranger Stands Out

What makes Time Stranger different from other Digimon RPGs is its depth and progression system. You’ll keep tweaking, training, and evolving—not only for strength, but also for your personality. The huge number of Digimon means no two teams will be alike.

There’s a story about data, fate, and connection that’s more than just numbers. The work, the approach, and the excitement all aim at one purpose: proving that every creature, no matter the size, can turn into a legend.

This isn’t just another RPG. It’s a love letter to the digital world, rebuilt for a generation that still remembers the first time they saw Agumon breathe fire on a CRT screen.
